The Indianapolis Chapter CSI is joining with the AIA Indianapolis for a Hard Hat Tour of the JW Marriott Hotel under construction in downtown Indianapolis. A dinner meeting following the tour will feature a panel discussion: "Planning for Success on Large Complex Project". Panelists will include representatives of the Owner, Construction Manager and Architect for the project.
The JW Marriott Indianapolis is part of a $450 million construction project which features 1,626 guest rooms in four hotels, over 100,000 square feet of meeting space and more than 900 parking spaces in three underground levels. Opening in February 2011, the JW Indy will be the largest JW Marriott in the US with 1,005 guest rooms, and will be the tallest hotel in Indianapolis at 34 stories. Three smaller hotels on the site have already opened for business.
.2 CSI CEN Units / 2 AIA LUs available for attending tour and program
With the size and complexity of this construction site, it is very important to read and follow the parking and site access information.
Parking: Park in Indiana Government Center Parking Garage just east of the JW Marriott.
(See Map) Hard Hat Tours will begin on Level 3 of this garage. Public access to the garage begins at 5 PM. Sorry, but you will need to pay for your own parking.
Job Site Access: Check-in on Level 3 of the Indiana Government Center Parking Garage, at the temporary construction barrier along south side. Those walking to the site may enter through the pedestrian doors at the southeast corner of the garage and take stairs to Level 3 (if you think you need to take the elevator here, please rethink going on this tour).
Safety: As part of the Check-in process, you will be required to sign a job site visitor's waiver. Though construction activities will not be taking place at the time of our tour, all those participating in the Hard Hat Tour are required to comply with job site safety requirements.
These requirements include:
- Hard Hats (Please bring your own!)
- Safety Glasses (Please bring your own!)
- Flat Bottom Hard Sole Shoes (No tennis shoes or high heels)
- Long Pants: (No shorts, dresses or skirts)
- No use of cell phones or eating or drinking during the tour.
Tours: Beginning at 5 PM, tour groups will leave the check-in area every 10 minutes as guests arrive. The last tour will leave the check-in area at 6:45 PM. The tour will start by walking across the skybridge from the garage to the JW Marriott. We will see Hotel's Lobby and 1st Floor meeting rooms and restaurants, 2nd and 3rd Floor meeting spaces and guestrooms and hospitality suites on the 4th Floor of the tower. Be prepared to walk. Elevators will NOT be in service. We will be taking a lot stairs! The tour will end where it began, walking back across the skybridge back to the Government Center Parking Garage.
Dinner Meeting: After the tour, guests will proceed through Garage Level 3 to the northeast corner skywalk to the existing Marriott Hotel for the Dinner Meeting and Panel Discussion.
If you want to attend the program, but not the tour, park in the Government Center Parking Garage and proceed to the check-in area of the tour and you will be able to go on over to the pre-function space in the Marriott for the Dinner Meeting. We recommend showing up after 6PM if you are not attending the tour, but are only attending the Dinner Meeting.
