Abstract
For specifiers and designers, one of the many decisions that are made is what building materials to use. There are so many options available for a building envelope that it can sometimes be overwhelming to sift through the pros and cons of various materials. An example of this that this seminar will focus on deals with masonry, limestone and artificial stone. These materials can be used very effectively in building design. The question that comes up in design is why one should specify one material over another, other than aesthetics. Generally, specifiers and designers do not have all of the answers about various materials and must often rely on product representatives to provide them with the right information. In this seminar, representatives from various areas of the masonry and stone industry, such as International Masonry Institute, Cast Stone Institute, Indiana Limestone Institute, among others, have gathered to compare natural stone and artificial stone. This afternoon roundtable will help designers be more knowledgeable about natural stone and artificial stone; and be able to make informed decisions about their uses.

Learning Objectives:
At the end of this seminar participants will be:
- Able to better understand the differences between natural stone & artificial stone
- Able to discuss the manufacturing process of each material
- Able to understand the cost differences between masonry, natural stone & artificial stone
- Able to understand the installation differences of each material
- Able to discuss the sustainability design applications of each material
- Able to understand how to specify each material
